TRIBUTE I got a call on 10th February, close to 10pm. After pleasantries, I heard these words, “I have a bad news.” I sat up, suspecting that what will come next would be disturbing. “Y - e - - s!” “Clifford Ojukwu passed on?” “What do you mean by that? Which Clifford? What happened? Was he sick? When? Would that be true?” All these questions came from spontaneously. The Caller then confirmed it. Cliff, so, after these years of hard work! After great toiling! Yes, success came! All the plans for the future! Your plans of coming back to Nigeria after retirement! So this will not happen again? What a great loss! I remember this quote, “Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they have about you.” ~ Shannon L. Alder. Clifford, in two different occasions, my wife and I visited you and Chinwe in Birmingham. In each of the visits, we spent time far into night discussing many things and succeeded in leaving me with some impression about you. You cared so much for your, Chinwe. Quite obvious – the close rapport was there. You were full of Energy and very positive about life in general. You were constantly in touch with events in Nigeria and had far more information than majority of us residing in Nigeria. I was particularly impressed about your hope and faith in Nigeria. No wonder your investments and plans for Nigeria. Your plans of settling back in Nigeria after your retirement was something we were all looking forward to witnessing. I kept asking myself, since I heard the news of your passing onto glory, “Where are all the plans you have made, Cliff?” “Is it all there is to life?” Cliff, we are consoled by the legacy you left behind. You were a great man, a wonderful intellect, a great soul of courage, hope and faith. You were full of enthusiasm. You very much cared for your family. They will miss you dearly. I pay my tribute of respect to you Cliff because you use your matchless energy for the good of people. May GOD Almighty grant you eternal rest. Pharm (Sir) Valentine and Lady Chinyere Ezeiru & Family
